7 Smart Hacks To Maintain Helmet Visor Clarity In Foggy Conditions

Riding a motorcycle during the winters is perhaps the most enjoyable experience you will ever have, but it also does come with a few of its own seasonal quirks that you need to tackle. One of the most common ones is the visor fogging up specially when the temperature outside is really cold. If the problem sounds really irritating to you and you've been facing this for a while now, here are a few simple tricks and techniques to keep your helmet visor really clear even in the coldest of conditions.

Before we begin here is a word of advice

It is not recommended to ride a motorcycle in extreme cold conditions especially because the tires do not get enough grip on the route surface which is an invitation for an accident! In the rear event that you must ride a motorcycle because of an emergency make sure to wear all motorcycle riding safety gears and accessories including a full-face branded motorcycle helmet and full body armor before heading out. With that out of the way let's get started with the techniques which you can use to keep your visor clean.

  1. Anti-fogging sprays & wipes: This is the only technique that will cost you a little money, everything else that is about to follow will involve things that you already have in your pantry or lying around in your house. Anti-fogging sprays are available for a wide variety of applications including keeping your helmet visors clear in cold conditions and it is also used to keep the windshields of cars and even motorcycles from fogging up. You can buy anti-fogging sprays at branded motorcycle accessories shop near you and apply it liberally on the visor and allow it to dry on its own at least 15 to 20 minutes before using the helmet. You can reapply the coating once or twice a month and that should be enough to prevent fogging on the helmet.
  2. Toothpaste: Toothpaste is one of the simple and cheap solutions that you can use to prevent fogging on the helmet visor. Just take a pea size amount of the toothpaste and apply it on both inside and outside of the visor surface and wipe it gently away with a cloth or soft tissue. Do not completely remove every tree softer toothpaste because that is what is going to prevent the fogging from happening. Unlike using anti fogging sprays, you might have to apply the toothpaste at least once a week or even frequently depending upon the Severity of winter in your area.
  3. Shaving Foam: Using shaving foam is also another common idea that is applied across the world to prevent helmet visors from fogging up. Just like using toothpaste, take a little amount of the product and apply it generously on both surfaces of the visor and allow it to settle for a moment before wiping it clean with a soft cotton cloth or soft tissue paper. The chemicals in shaving foam prevents fogging from happening which is a great way of keeping your visibility clear in cold conditions.
  4. Water & vinegar solution: If you have a geyser in your bathroom then you might have already used this technique to keep the bathroom mirrors clean. Mix a little amount of vinegar and water in a cup and apply it with your fingers or with a nylon brush just to make sure that nothing attaches to the visor surface from your fingers. Allow the layer to dry on its own. Do not place it under the sun because it will form permanent spots on the visor, which is something you do not want at all! After the solution has dried, clean it away with a soft cotton cloth or soft piece of tissue paper.
  5. Old newspaper (slightly wet): the ubiquitous solution for everything - old newspapers are applicable in this case also! Take any piece of old newspaper and gently damp with a little water. Now use a damp newspaper to rub the surface of the visor very gently making sure not to apply a lot of force because it might lead to permanent scratches. Once you've done that, wipe out the extra moisture from the surface of the visor and allow it to dry before using it.
  6. Alcohol wipes: In case you do not have any of the materials that we have mentioned above you can always use alcohol wipes which are available at any grocery store or any medical departmental store near you. However, this technique does not work if the temperature is really very cold outside. Better than this is the toothpaste technique which you might want to try and find out which one works better for you.
  7. Lemon Juice: Last but not the least lemon juice is also something that you might want to try because it has been used for cleaning glass surfaces and transparent plastic surfaces for a very long period of time with a great deal of success! Squeeze a little fresh lemon juice into a small Cup and apply it with a piece of soft tissue paper on the surface of the visor and then wipe away with another dry soft tissue.
